Importance of problem–based pathophysiology learning

Importance of problem–based pathophysiology learning

Pathophysiology is a bridge between the basic medical sciences and clinical medicine. That is why teaching pathophysiology is a matter of continuous professional education. Stage 1 is the 3rd year pathophysiology course. Stage 2 is teaching the clinical pathophysiology of individual diseases at clinical subjects. Stage 3 is the postgraduate pathophysiology high education of medical specialists.

In recent years, a combination of problem-based learning and case discussion had been used in Stage 1 of pathophysiology teaching and learning, in order to improve disease processes and mechanisms understanding. This method was meant to improve students’ abilities to analyse and solve problems, to increase their enthusiasm for study and to train them in communication. On the other hand, teachers can guide students’ study in an active and initiative way.

Workshop goals:
- Testing examples of problem–based pathophysiology learning
- Discussing about how this method of teaching/learning pathophysiology may change and improve medical students education.
- Receiving participants feedback.
